where does governor romney and ryan go. just as important or more important, campaigns have to make decisions and the obama campaign recently borrowed $15 million. money is not scarce. these guys have raised a boat load of money and not taking public financing and not subject to caps, but you are at a point where you have to make consequential decisions and every decision is make or break. we are talking to democrats and they will wait and see what happens in the 48 hours with the numbers. if the answer is no and florida and north carolina are moving his way, they think the smart thing to do is scale back and build a fire wall in the midwest. >> you have done commercials for candidates. how does it work logistically and how often are they polling and how much communication is there between the ad people and the poll people to determine our ads? >> sometimes the ad people tell you way too much communication with the polling people. the ad guys and they do the math. it's a little bit about and they are polling around the cloc

we haven't heard a whole lot from mitt romney. he's been in debate prep this weekend, in debate prep right now. but his running mate paul ryan addressed that last night in colorado. >> what peace through strength means is our adversaries are much less willing to test us, they're less brazen, and our allies are more willing to trust us. what it means is our adversaries when they see us projecting weakness, when they see us hollowing out our military, when they see us equivocating when it comes time to stand up for our beliefs and values overseas, they think we are a super power in decline. >> reporter: and there you have paul ryan last night in colorado trying to rev up a campaign rally. you know, we talk a lot about benghazi and how it's going to be an issue tonight. i think it's going to be an issue in a broader spectrum for mitt romney to try to talk more about terrorism in the middle east and, of course, paul ryan there talking about what america's standing is, and i think he's speaking directly to the report now that the u.s.

so i asked governor romney, how low can you stoop, governor romney, to allow your attorney to launch this attack on a single mom who you know cannot defend herself because she is still under that gag order. >> we'll see what happens, obviously, with the legal action here. let's turn to indiana senate candidate richard mourdock, who said this. let's remind ourselves of what he said. >> i struggled with it myself for a long time but i came to realize life is a gift from god and i think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that god intended to happen. >> gloria, we talked about this issue before. you were a victim of rape, had a legal abortion. does this stagger you that these politicians running for the senate, second one now, would say such extraordinary things about something as sensitive as rape and abortion and so on? >> well, i wish i could say that it surprises me but it doesn't, because there is that kind of extremism in the republican party. we heard it from todd akin, who is running for the u.s. senate seat from missouri, when he talke

obama is also now beating romney with suburban women, and back in september that same group favored romney by six points. what about the gender gap here? >> i would be surprised if women overall favored the -- mitt romney in september. usually, of course there has been a gender gap, democrats run better among women than men. what's striking in this poll and in all the polls and i think sets up an important dynamic for tonight's debate is that president obama has lost ground among white women and not only the blue collar white women who are always loosely attached to him, but in a number of these polls, college educated white women who have been the most democratic portion of the white electorate. and i think that kind of creates, you saw that in the second debate, focus on issues like equity, access to contraception and planned parenthood. one of the focus in this debate could very well be to try to continue that argument aiming at women for the president, by suggesting that mitt romney is too quick to kind of rattle the war card. >> it's interesting you say that. this is a foreign policy

both from the romney campaign and the obama campaign, both on abortion. >> those ads say mitt romney would ban all abortions and contraceptions seemed a bit extreme, so i looked into it. turns out romney doesn't oppose contraception at all. in fact, he thinks abortion should be an option many cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother's life. >> banning all abortions? >> i would be delighted sign that bill. >> trying to mislead us. that's wrong. but ban all abortions? only if you vote for him. >> so obviously somebody thinks this is a great way to turn out female voters. >> it's worked for democrats in virginia traditionally on that issue, but, look, romney wasn't anywhere near richmond when what mark talked about was going on. i have to add obama doesn't benefit of having mark warner on the ticket. >> kill you with kindness here. >> let's talk about abortions. that's been -- they hit me on the same issue. they hit john warn other the same issues. they hit anybody with the label. it doesn't fit. >> frankly, it's still a very conservative state in so many places. these abortion issues

romney can win. romney is deploying his resources and previously won by double digit states of president obama's so we're down to the ground game. there's little that these gentlemen can say at this point that can exceed what their ground game has to do. we have a great ground game. we don't even -- our high propensity voters haven't even voted yet and i would disagree with my esteemed colleague and beautiful husband that it wasn't the debate, what happened at the debate was that romney filled the hole that voters wanted to be comfortable voting against barack obama and for mitt romney which is what romney's going to do for the next four years to grow the economy. there's nothing fundamental has changed. this economy is the worst ever, energy prices are not down and people are living the same life they lived four years ago. so that's what this race is about. not the polls. >> look, first of all, president obama won by 7.3 last time so he doesn't have the duplicate what he did in 2008 to win. secondly
